May 2020

Toronto, ON – Members working for TBH Services at Toronto Pearson Airport voted 95% in favour of a wage re-opener of their current three-year contract. The deal provided for wage increases of between 9 % – 18 % depending on classification. Senior members also received a premium.

Laila Hakimi and Vinod Bhaskaran, members of the Negotiating Committee, played a vital role in making sure the deal was worked out.

The company approached the union to reopen the Collective Bargaining Agreement and substantial increases were negotiated to benefit the membership. Due to the pandemic and the skyrocketing cost of living, the employer wanted to attract new employees and retain existing members.

“We thank the company for taking a proactive approach with the Union to address labour shortages and encourage other employers in the aviation sector to do the same. the union is here to help and to offer solutions in our ever-changing labour market,” said Dan Janssen, General Chairperson with IAM District 140.

The 68 members consist of baggage handlers, drivers, lead hands and passenger service agents who handle inter-terminal baggage and over-sized baggage at Toronto Pearson.
