Machinists welcome new C-Series order by Air Baltic

Monday May 28, 2018

For Immediate Release

Montréal, QC – AirBaltic Corporation AS’s firm purchase of 30 CS300 aircraft with options and rights to purchase 30 additional aircraft of the same type is good news for the job security of our workers and a demonstration of the strength of program.

“This is positive for the security of aerospace jobs in Quebec,” says IAM Québec Coordinator David Chartrand. “AirBaltic was the first carrier to use the CS-300. This is further proof of the quality of the C-Series and further proof of the know-how and professionalism of the aerospace workers in Quebec.”

This order comes at the same time as the implementation of the provisions formalizing the C-Series Limited Partnership in the Mirabel facilities.

“Last Friday, workers were made aware of the first changes,” said Chartrand.  “The process is proceeding in accordance with the provisions of the reciprocal agreement voted 92.3% by our members on March 4 and we will ensure that this is the case in the long term. Even if there will be a period of adaptation we do not expect a difficult transition, even less if the orders are to rendezvous,” concludes the Quebec coordinator.

The Machinists Union is the largest aerospace union in the world with over 184,000 members in 1,000 collective agreements.

Representing tens of thousands of aerospace workers in Quebec since 1940, we now find members of Machinists in major companies such as Bombardier, Rolls Royce, Heroux-Devtek, Safran Landing Systems, L3-MAS, AJ-Walter, Air Canada, Air Transat and Siemens.
