First three-year contract for the members of Howmet Canada

On September 10th, the bargaining committee presented the collective agreement offer to the employees of Howmet Canada, members of Local 712. The workers subsequently voted 81% in favour of the 3-year proposal.

Notable improvements were:

  • Introduction of a pay scale
  • Important salary adjustments for a large majority of workers
  • Retro-active pay for all hours worked since January 1st 2022, with new salary
  • Improvements to vacations and addition of 6th week of vacation
  • Introduction of defined benefits pension plan from the QFL
  • Ratification bonus for all workers

The Labour Board confirmed that the workers at Howmet Canada’s Laval plant were certified on August 13, 2021. Meetings were then held to discuss with the new members, elect the negotiation committee and launch negotiations.

“This first collective agreement will improve working conditions and bring security and stability to Howmet Canada workers” said Stéphane Paré, Business Representative for District 11. “Congratulations to the negotiating committee for their excellent work and thank you to the members for your patience” he concluded.

The 130 workers from Howmet Canada Inc, situated in Laval, specializes in complex castings for the aerospace industry and military and commercial applications. They offer complete solutions that can include simultaneous engineering, manufacturing, machining, surface treatments and assembly of aluminum castings.
