Montréal, QC – The arrival of Airbus in the C-Series limited partnership will come into effect officially on July 1, 2018.

“The separation between the activities of SCACS and Bombardier was already in place at Mirabel, so things are following their course,” explained IAM Québec coordinator David Chartrand. “This chapter is now behind and we have a better idea of what lies ahead. We will be able to move to the next steps, ensure the implementation of the reciprocity agreement that ratified by over 92 per cent by the membership last March and look towards the negotiation of the next contract.”

Airbus is already well established in Canada with 17,000 employees spread over seven cities and its relationship with 570 suppliers. “Let us hope that their arrival in Mirabel will open the door to a greater involvement from Airbus,” said Chartrand. “This news confirms that Airbus is taking root in the Québec aerospace ecosystem. We now have a second manufacturer of international caliber that is going to assemble planes in our country. We need to look at this as the recognition of our aerospace know-how and capitalize on this situation to get Airbus to develop its business here and thus create and secure jobs for the future.”
