For Immediate Release
Montréal, QC The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has successfully organized 20 new members of Swissport Canada Handling Incorporated, employed at Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport. This is the second Swissport unit organized by the IAMAW in less than a year. The other 150 member unit is located in Vancouver, B.C.
“These workers wanted better job security and working conditions,” said IAMAW District 140 Organizer Robert Savoie. “Our knowledge of the airline industry and the fact that we represent the majority of workers at the airport convinced them that the Machinists were the right choice.”
The newest members of IAMAW Local Lodge 2309 work as Station Attendants servicing companies such as Air Inuit, Mexicana and soon United Airlines.
The IAMAW represents more than 700,000 active and retired members in North America and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense-related industries.
