Toronto, ON Members of IAMAW Local Lodge 2323 employed by BBH Services at Pearson International Airport are all smiles after gaining substantial wage increases in their first collective agreement.
Wage increases in the first year of the three-year agreement range from 15 per cent to 30 per cent depending upon the classification and 2.5 per cent in each of the remaining two years. There are three classifications under the agreement with the starting wage rate for baggage handlers set at $9.50 per hour, drivers at $10.50 per hour and lead hand at $12.00 per hour. Other agreement highlights include:
- Midnight shift premiums
- Company provided uniforms, jackets and work boots
- Establishment of a seniority system
- Leave of absence provisions
- Ability to bank sick time
- Company paid parking
- Complete benefit package including dental, extended health care, life insurance, emergency travel assistance and AD&D
The agreement was ratified by a margin of 85 per cent.
The 138 members were organized in September of 2006. They provide handling services for all oversized baggage and connecting flights baggage for all airlines at Toronto International Airport.
The IAMAW represents more than 700,000 active and retired members in North America and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense-related industries.
