Montréal, QC Members of IAMAW Local Lodge 2235 have ratified a new collective agreement with Bombardier Aerospace by a margin of 85 per cent.
“I am very proud of how the membership stood behind their bargaining committee,” said IAMAW District 11 Business Representative Claude Boisvert. “The company wanted the right to replace bargaining unit members who retired or were dismissed, with sub-contracted workers. With the support of the membership behind them, the bargaining committee rejected this demand and the company was forced to drop the idea,” explained Boisvert.
The new four-year and four-month deal replaces the old collective agreement which expired in September 2006. It provides wage increases of 3 per cent in each year. Other contract highlights include:
- Improved vacation allowances
- Improved statutory holidays
- Improved bereavement leave
- Increased shift premiums
The 68 members provide security and fire fighting services for Canada’s largest aircraft manufacturer.
The IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
