Seniority Rights strike issue in Strathroy!

Friday December 1, 2006
For Immediate Release

Strathroy, ON – Members of IAMAW Local Lodge 2374 went on strike today against Glendale Recreational Vehicles in support of the preservation of their seniority rights.

“The employer wants to pick and choose which employees he can lay off when times get tough and that’s a violation of the seniority rights provisions of our collective agreement,” said IAMAW Grand Lodge Representative Jim Nugent. “Seniority is one of the fundamental cornerstones of the Canadian Labour Movement and these members will fight to maintain those rights.

The employer had offered a two-year agreement with a 1 per cent wage increase in each year but the membership rejected the offer outright over the demands for concessions on seniority provisions.

The 121 members manufacture fifth-wheel recreational trailers.

The IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
