Montréal, QC – Determined job action by members of IAMAW Local Lodge 869 has produced a new four-year agreement at Rolls Royce Canada Limited.

“Job actions such as early departures from shifts and extended lunch breaks produced the desired results,” said IAMAW Local Lodge 869 President Carol Ogilvie. “The membership’s rejections of earlier company offers, a strong strike mandate and their support of the bargaining team made the difference.”

The agreement provides wage increases of 3 per cent in the first year, 3 per cent in the second year and 3.5 per cent in each of the last two years. It also provides a shift premium increase of 15 cents per hour. Other agreement high lights include;

  • Increased routine dental coverage of for employees and dependents
  • Improved eye care coverage
  • Improved Drug coverage for retirees
  • Defined Benefit Pension Plan maintained
  • Introduction of banked overtime hours to a maximum of 80 hours per year

The agreement also contains a Letter of Understanding concerning job security. The company has agreed not to eliminate any position covered by the collective agreement during its lifetime.

Hours of work on the weekend shift has increased from 24 to 30 for 40 hours of pay and employees will develop functional task capabilities to improve efficiency, reduce turn-around-time and production costs to allow the company to achieve its goal of a 20 per cent reduction in operational costs. The company believes these changes will allow it to become more competitive in attracting more outside engine repair and overhaul contracts.

The 830 members of IAMAW Local Lodge 869 ratified the agreement by a margin of 74 per cent.
