Quest for Steady Leadership brings new members to IAM!

Montreal, QC – Aramark’s cafeteria workers at Bombardier’s Finishing Centre have found what they were looking for with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

“These people were looking for steady representation and a better collective agreement and that’s what they’ll get with the Machinists,” said David Chartrand, President of IAMAW Local Lodge 712. “Over the past three years, their former union changed their representative ten times and these people became very frustrated over constantly explaining their issues to yet another new face.”

Chartrand explained that when they compared their collective agreement with the IAM agreement for Aramark cafeteria workers at Bombardier’s Dorval facility, it was no contest. “Once Arthur Iknejian, an IAMAW steward from Dorval, showed them our agreement and talked about the quality of our representation, we had no trouble getting a majority of cards signed.”

The nine new members of IAMAW Local Lodge 712 provide a variety of cafeteria services at the Finishing Centre.

The IAMAW represents more than 700,000 active and retired members in North America and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense-related industries.
