Quest for wage parity brings new members to Machinists

Wednesday, September 6, 2006
For Immediate Release

Miramichi, N.B. – Technicians at Towne Ford Sales and Service in Miramichi New Brunswick are the newest members of IAMAW Local Lodge 2418.

“These people turned to us for representation after their employer refused to acknowledge their request for wage parity with other technicians in the area based on their qualifications,” said IAMAW Grand Lodge Representative Brian Beaton. “Basically their employer doesn’t respect their expertise so they came to the Machinists, who represent technicians at three other dealerships in the area.”

The 13 new members of Local Lodge 2418 include technicians, parts clerks and service advisors.

The IAMAW represents more than 700,000 active and retired members and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense-related industries.
