Hull, QC Rejection of concessionary demands from the employer and a strong strike mandate from the membership of IAMAW Local Lodge 1660 has produced a new collective agreement at Alstom Canada Incorporated in Hull, Quebec.
The members rejected the first company offer which contained demands for concessions on group insurance and overtime. The union bargaining team went back into negotiations armed with a strong strike mandate from the 36 members. The new deal provides wage increases of 2.75 per cent in each of the first two years and 3 per cent in each of the remaining three years. It also provides improved pension benefits and additional vacation time. The members manufacture, maintain and repair industrial boilers.
The IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
