For Immediate Release

Vancouver, B.C. – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has expanded its membership again at Vancouver International Airport with the addition of 150 new members employed by Swissport Canada Handling Incorporated.

The newest members of IAM Local Lodge 16 provide ramp and cabin services for Westjet and Northwest Airlines at Vancouver International. “Our record of service to our members is what convinced these workers to join the Machinists,” said Mike Clegg, General Chairperson of IAMAW District 140. “They looked around this airport and seen what we’ve done on behalf of our members at Air Canada, Aeroguard, Securiguard and Panauille Servisair and have decided they want the same kind of union representation.”

The IAM organized 250 Vancouver International Airport perimeter security guards employed by Securiguard Services in March 2006.

The IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
