Significant gains for Machinists at Invar

Batawa, ON – Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 1788 have a new four-year agreement with Invar Manufacturing in Batawa, Ontario. The 370 members ratified the agreement last night by an 85 per cent margin.

Highlights of the agreement include enhanced contract language and wage increases of 3 per cent in each of the first three years and 3.5 per cent in the fourth year. Contributions to the IAMAW joint union-management pension plan include an additional .5 per cent in the first year taking the contribution to $1.19/hr per employee and .5 per cent in the third year bringing the contribution to $1.27/hr per employee. Invar is the second largest contributor to the plan in terms of monetary value.

“These are significant gains for our members especially in the current climate of the auto motive sector,” said IAMAW Grand Lodge Representative Bill Shipman. Invar, located north of Trenton, manufactures transmission and chassis parts for the North American auto industry.

The IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
