Airport Perimeter Security Guards Newest IAM Members!

Vancouver, B.C. – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has been certified to represent all Perimeter Security Guards at Vancouver International Airport. The 250 guards employed by Securiguard Services Ltd are the newest members of IAMAW Local Lodge 16.
“The Machinists wrote new law with this certification,” said Mike Clegg, General Chairperson of IAMAW District 140. “The Canada Industrial Labour Relations Board ruled that perimeter security at Vancouver International Airport was under the federal jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code. It took twelve months of hard work but this is a ground breaking victory for us.”
The newest IAM members provide security services around the perimeter of the airport, which includes checking suspicious packaged items and validating the identity of airport personnel to prevent any non-employee intrusions.
