First deal at Parent Door a good first step!

Thursday June 30, 2005
For Immediate Release

North Bay, ON – Joining the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has produced immediate results for workers at Parent Door Systems. The 25 members of IAMAW Local Lodge 2412 ratified a new five-year agreement with wage adjustments in the first year raising the starting wage level by 75 cents to $8.75 per hour and five per cent in each of the next four years. Acceleration to the top of the wage scale has now been reduced to one year.

The new agreement also provides for vacation and vacation pay improvements along with the introduction of seniority and recall rights language and the introduction of grievance and arbitration procedures. “When these members joined the Machinists in August 2004 they had concerns over seniority rights, low wages and respect on the job,” said IAMAW Grand Lodge Representative Pat Murphy. “The Machinists showed these people how to address their concerns at the bargaining table and come away with a deal their membership could endorse. As first agreements go, this is a good one, especially when you consider where they’ve come from. The bargaining team should be proud of what they’ve won for their members.” With the new contract language in place the next step for the union, will be to provide training for the new stewards and health and safety representatives.

Parent Door manufactures entrance systems and windows for homes. The IAMAW also represents workers at Boat Longyear Inc, Bombardier Aerospace and Atlas Copco, in North Bay.
