Peterborough Nefab workers choose Machinists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
5 March, 2004

PETERBOROUGH - After 14 months and 2 votes the 73 employees of Nefab Inc. in Peterborough, Ontario have won the IAM representation they wanted. Our new members manufacture transport packaging for a number of companies across Canada. Nefab is a Swedish company with branches worldwide.

At one of the company captive audience meetings, the employees were being told they didn't need a union or a collective agreement. One of our new brothers asked the CEO whether or not he had an employment contract with Nefab. The meeting was concluded without an answer.

"Obviously, getting a voice in the workplace was a major issue for these workers", stated Organizer, Scott Jackson.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is the largest union in the aerospace and air transport sectors in North America. With a total of 700,000 members, the IAM is present in all sectors of activity. Our members are also present in manufacturing, at the municipal level, the Canadian Mint, the Toronto Transit Commission and many others.
