Workers at Héroux-Devtek Join the IAMAW |
||
| October 3, 2003 WORKERS AT HÉROUX-DEVTEK JOIN THE IAMAW. Satisfied with the services they received over the course of the past year, a large majority (more than 90%) of the hundred or so workers at Héroux-Devteks landing gear division located in Laval voted in favour of joining Local Lodge 1758 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). It is mainly the IAMAWs expertise in the aerospace field which motivated these highly specialized workers to join our Association. Thus, by joining forces with us, they are now in a better position to negotiate their next collective agreement. Upon filing the application for certification, Gérald Tremblay, organizer for IAMAWs District 11, had this to say: _It is with great pride that I welcome all these new members to the fold. After having worked closely with the current leaders, there is no doubt in my mind as to their ability to represent their members_ best interests during the upcoming bargaining round. According to business representative Pierre Brisebois, _The bargaining session is being prepared and everything is going as planned. The committee members are motivated and now realize the breadth of aerospace resources. At this rate, once weve been certified, well be ready to meet with the employer to begin negotiating a new collective agreement. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is the largest union in the aerospace and air transport sectors in North America. With a total of 700,000 members, the IAM is present in all sectors of activity. Our members manufacture aircraft, aircraft engines, electric and industrial turbines.
