Revving up with the Machinists - Agincourt Hyundai Votes Union

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 05 February, 2003

Toronto - The IAM has 9 new members. On February 5th the service employees of Agincourt Hyundai voted in favour of representation through the IAM. The group is comprised of service technicians, apprentice, parts driver, detailer and service advisors.

The main issues for wanting to get unionized are respect and job security, things the IAM will have little problem in securing for them. Although the IAM represents auto dealership employees across Canada, this is a first for the Toronto area. The brothers have been accepted into Local Lodge 235, which is affiliated to District 78.

“The Machinists Union represents approximately 500 members in auto dealerships across Canada and over 40,000 across North America,” said Jackson, “so we know how to represent them and how to service them. It’s no surprise they chose the IAM, he said.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is the largest union in the aerospace and air transport sectors in North America. With a total of 700,000 members, the IAM is present in all sectors of activity. Our members manufacture aircraft, aircraft engines, electric and industrial turbines, refrigerators, stoves and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, among others.
