Workers at Diversifiée Edelstein Ltée in Lasalle say "yes" |
||
Press Release 12 September, 2002 The 16 workers at Diversifiée Edelstein Ltée in Ville Lasalle, specializing in the manufacture of adhesive tape, are now members of the Machinists union (IAMAW-QFL). Jean-Léo Côté, Directing Business Representative and Claude Boisvert, Business Representative met with most of the workers on January 19, 2002 after an organizing meeting organized by Gérald Tremblay, Organizer for District 11 in Montreal. The meeting was held to share with the workers the advantages of being unionized. All workers signed Machinists Union cards that day. Management, unhappy with the situation, contested the IAM certification request. Following two days of hearings at the Labour Commission, the IAM received the right to represent the workers on September 6, 2002. The workers at Diversifiée Edelstein Ltée have given themselves a collective tool to defend their rights at work, negotiate a better working wage and to end abuse from management. The new members will belong to IAMAW Local Lodge 1660. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is the largest union in the aerospace and air transport sectors in North America. With a total of 700,000 members, the IAM is present in all sectors of activity. Our members manufacture aircraft, aircraft engines, electric and industrial turbines, refrigerators, stoves and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, among others.
