ELECTROLUX: Offer Rejected by Local 1148 |
| 8 April, 2002 News Release ÉLECTROLUX : Offer rejected On April 7, 2002, approximately 800 Machinists Union members gathered together in a school hall in Repentigny and voted to reject the employer's offer. The members of Local Lodge 1148 voted to reject the offer by crushing margin of 96%. Electrolux is also known as Frigidaire Canada. The memebrs of Local Lodge 1148 subsequently gave their Negotiating Committee a strike mandate of 94% to be exercised at the appropriate time. "The company offered us a four-year contract with a minimal annual raise of 25 cents per hour. this is totally unacceptable," declared Alain Rouleau, spokesperson for the Negotiating Committee. "On Friday morning, the employer saw the outcome of the vote even before it was held," said Serge Picotte, President of Local 1148. "Workers flooded the offices of the Executive Director waving the document containing the shameful offer."
