Workers at Structure de Bois Supérieures of St. Isidore Join the Union

Press release

February 13, 2002

The 12 employees of Structure de Bois Supérieures (SBS) of St. Isidore, a company specializing in the fabrication of wood flooring, have joined the Machinists Union (IAMAW, FTQ, CLC).

The increased presence of Alain Rouleau, District 11 Business Representative, during the latest bargaining round at Kéfor, also in St. Isidore, encouraged the members of this unit’s bargaining committee to contact an employee of SBS (next to Kéfor) to discuss the benefits available through unionization. Jean-Guy Lessard, an SBS worker, was quickly convinced and set up a meeting with the help of District 11 organizer Gérald Tremblay to convince the other employees to join the union.

SBS’s workers gave themselves a collective tool to improve their working conditions. Brother Alain Rouleau took it upon himself to negotiate the workers’ first collective agreement. The new members will belong to IAMAW Local Lodge 1660.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is the largest union in the aerospace and air transport sectors in North America. With a total of 700,000 members, the IAM is present in all sectors of activity. Our members manufacture aircraft, aircraft engines, electric and industrial turbines, refrigerators, stoves and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, among others.
