||
| For Immediate Release 25 July, 2001 15 employees of Laflamme Air Libre, in Delson, Québec are now under the banner of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). The company specializes in the manufacture and installation of paint rooms. Derek Richer, employed at Laflamme, with the help of Gérald Tremblay, Organizing Business Representative for IAM District 11, convinced a large majority of workers to sign with the Machinists Union last May. Following the application for certification and an inquiry into the unions representation, the Labour Commissioner granted certification to the IAM on July 3, 2001. These new members will join LL1660. The workers at Laflamme Air Libre now have the collective tools to defend their rights, have their seniority respected, end abuse from the employer and finally get salaries at the industry standard. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) is the largest union in the North American aerospace industry. The IAM has more than 700,000 members and is spread out through all sectors of activity. Our members build, among other things, aircraft, aircraft engines, electric and industrial turbines, refrigerators, stoves and Harley Davidson motorcycles.
