Markham, ON – Members of IAM Local Lodge 235, recently organized at Markham Acura, have ratified their first collective agreement.

“It was a substantial pay cut for auto technicians that prompted these workers to seek help from the IAM,” explained IAM District Lodge 78 Directing Business Representative Ralph Martin. “I think this agreement goes a long way to correcting that issue.”

The three year agreement provides an immediate $2.00/hour wage adjustment for auto technicians as well as a 2 per cent wage increase in each year for all classifications. Other agreement highlights include :
Improved vacation benefits
Improved bereavement leave
Increased safety boot allowance

“I think the members are pleased with this agreement and the fact they now part of an organization that gives them a voice in the workplace,” said Martin.

The 18 members consist of auto technicians, service advisors, lot attendants, shuttle drivers and parts personnel. Markham Acura is the first automotive dealership to be represented by the IAM in the Greater Toronto area.

The IAM also represents auto dealership workers in Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie as well as Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and British Columbia.
