Magellan Avoids Strike with New Deal!

Winnipeg, MB – The threat of strike action against Magellan Aerospace in Stony Mountain has produced a new four-year agreement for members of IAMAW Local Lodge 741.
“This wasn’t the deal we wanted but the bargaining committee has to be commended for its hard work in bringing back a package the membership could accept,” said IAMAW District Lodge 181 Directing Business Representative Wayne Relf.

The membership had given its bargaining committee a strike mandate of 98 per cent and it took the assistance of a government-appointed conciliator to broker an acceptable deal. “This agreement reflects the tough current economy and what may happen in the future,” added Relf.

The agreement provides for a $400.00 cash payment in the first year, a .75 per cent wage increase in the second year, a 1 per cent wage increase in the third year and a 1.2 per cent wage increase in the fourth year. Other agreement highlights include:
• $50.00 every two years for eye exams
• The addition of grandchild in the immediate family for bereavement leave

The 51 members at the Magellan facility at Stony Mountain, northwest of Winnipeg, manufacture Black Brant sounding rockets and the CRV 7 rocket for Canadian, U.S. and other military forces.
