St. Thomas, ON – Members of IAMAW Local Lodge 1975 have ratified a new three-year collective agreement with GKN Sinter Metals.
The three year agreement provides wage increases of 2 per cent in each year. The current average wage rate is $22.51 per hour. Other agreement highlights include :
• Safety boot allowance increased by $5.00 in each year of the agreement
• Paid up Life insurance benefits increase by $500.00 in the second and third year of agreement to $10,000 upon retiring to a pension in addition to life insurance coverage equal to a members salary
• Increased meal allowance
• Members who retire during the life of the agreement will receive a lump sum cash payment of $35.00/year of service in addition to their regular pension
• Improvements to bereavement leave
• Changes to contract language addressing concerns over seniority, probationary employees, Overtime, vacations and shift assignments
The 120 members at GKN operate Powder Metal Presses, Load and unload high temperature sintering furnaces, run CNC Machining Centres and assemble automotive transmission carriers for the OEM’s.
