For Immediate Release

Victoria, BC – Members of IAM Local Lodge 1857 have ratified a new collective agreement with Glen Oak Ford.

“The main issue was parity with Wheaton Chevrolet, another Machinist work place located in the same block at Glen Oak Ford,” explained IAM District Lodge 250 Business Representative Alastair Haythornthwaite.  “The two contracts were one year out of sync and Wheaton members had a 2 per cent wage increase which the Glen Oak members wanted to match. It came down to a strike vote but after mediation an agreement was reached that all parties could live with. This was the definition of successful collective bargaining.”

The new agreement calls for wage increases of 2 per cent in the first year, 1.5 per cent in the second year and 1.75 per cent in the third year. Other agreement highlights include :
Incremental indexing of the Weekly Wage Loss
Improved Long Term Disability coverage
Improved Dental Care coverage
Family Day holiday now written into agreement
Vacation restrictions limiting how many employees can be off at the same during the year have been eased.

Glen Oak Ford has two locations in Victoria and the 22 members consist of Journeyperson Technicians, Service Writers, Parts Personnel and Apprentices.

The IAM represents workers at more than 25 dealerships on Vancouver Island and the lower mainland of British Columbia.
