Ottawa, ON – Workers at the Quality Inn in the Ottawa suburb of Orleans, have joined the IAM.

“This is our first hotel in the Ottawa area,” explained IAM District Lodge 78 Organizer Scott Jackson. “These workers had a need for better wages and benefits as well as a voice with experience in the hospitality sector that could address their concerns with their employer.” The campaign to organize was not without its difficulties. “I can’t say enough about the work of IAM Organizer Roy Bhansingh during this difficult campaign,” said Jackson. “The employer tried everything to dissuade the workers from joining the union and Roy’s quiet and determined influence helped these workers in their decision to join the IAM.”

The 14 newest members of IAM Local Lodge 1295 consist of housekeeping, kitchen and maintenance personnel. The IAM also represents hospitality workers in hotels in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, London and Sarnia.
