Machinists Continue to Grow with OPT

For Immediate Release

Richmond Hill, ON – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has added more members with the expansion of Ontario Patient Transfer’s newest base in Richmond Hill just north of Toronto.
“We’re building on the relationship we developed with OPT since we organized their home base in Hamilton more than a year ago,” explained IAMAW District Lodge 78 Organizer Scott Jackson. “As they continue to grow, the Machinists will grow with them.”
The 55 Medical Attendants provide non-emergency ambulatory patient transfers between Richmond Hill and Aurora and Newmarket to the north, Brampton to the west and Markham and Toronto to the south. The newest additions to IAMAW Local Lodge 1295,
bring the total number of Machinist members at OPT to 237 at bases in Hamilton, Kitchener, Winchester and Arnprior.
The IAMAW also represents patient transfer workers at Medi-Van in Winnipeg, Ambutrans in Toronto and Voyageur Patient Transfer Services in Sarnia.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
