Machinist Care Workers Sign First Agreement!

For Immediate ReleaseToronto, ON – Members of IAMAW Local Lodge 1295 employed by the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre have ratified their first collective agreement.The three-year agreement provides wage increases of 2.25 per cent in the first year and 2.5 per cent in each of the remaining two years. Some workers will also receive wage adjustments to equalize pay scales. Other agreement highlights include :

* Introduction of the IAM Pension Plan
* Increased holiday benefits
* Increased medical benefits
* Improved contract language

The 130 members employed at this long term care facility were organized in February of this year. They consist of Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, housekeeping, kitchen and dietary staff, personal support workers and maintenance staff, and earn between $16 to 30 per hour.

IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
