Ottawa, ON – Members of IAM Local Lodge 2413, employed by Servisair, tremendously show support for their latest Collective Agreement.

“We began the bargaining process in February and after 3 months of productive bargaining sessions, we reached a tentative agreement in late April 2013,” explained IAM District Lodge 140 General Chairperson Michael Corrado. “On May 15, 2013 a ratification vote was held, which the IAM Membership at Servisair Ottawa overwhelmingly supported by an 87% margin.

“The Committee was supplied with all the research materials, comparisons and tools needed to intelligently negotiate a respectable collective agreement,” explained Corrado. “The General Chairpersons of Transportation District Lodge 140 assigned to negotiating the many Servisair contracts across the country are in constant communications with one another and as a result we are better equipped to bargain wisely and devise strategies that helps empower us at the bargaining tables.”

“A new and improved wage scale was negotiated that provides everyone with good wage increases. A vast number of our new members with less than 1 year of service will receive 3 pay increases this year, which equates to an 8.2% increase in 2013, with full retroactivity” Corrado explained.

Other agreement highlights include :
Increase to employer contributions to RRSP plan and a new matching plan for Part-Time members
Improved personal day allotment with reduced waiting times for this benefit
Introduction of longevity premiums
Improved bereavement leave
Shift language improvements, which includes the involvement of a scheduling committee
Improved language for Union Representation, including paid & dedicated weekly hours for the Chief Steward
Defined rest periods/meal breaks
Premiums and cash incentives associated with the towing of aircraft
Signing bonus for all members and employees covered under the CBA
Full retro pay on new pay rates

“I am also happy to announce that we were also successful in including the OPS department into the new agreement, which were non-unionized in the past. We were able to provide these new members with a $1.50/hr premium for the work they perform,” said Corrado.

“I think the Bargaining Committee did a fantastic job in putting together a good deal that will benefit everyone involved. I would personally like to thank each and every one of them for their hard work over the past 5 months of bargaining and would also like to thank the membership for their patience and professionalism throughout this round of bargaining,” explained Corrado.

The 109 members provide many aviation services including; maintenance of Servisair equipment, ramp, grooming, OPS and customer service and at the Ottawa Airport.
