Like previous years, the IAM had a delegation attending the Broadbent Institute’s 2017 Progress Summit taking place in Ottawa, the most important gathering of progressive leaders and thinkers in Canada. This year’s theme was Change the Game and participants were able to listen to many speakers on pressing issues, such as free trade as part of the Great Debate: “Be it resolved: “Free Trade” deals failed because the rules were designed to put corporate interests before public interests.”

The IAM has been a long-time sponsor of the Summit and delegates from Local Lodge 712 and Local Lodge 2323 attended it.

“This is the third time I am in Ottawa to listen to different speakers and that summit is very informative and inspirational. ” said Sister Sonia Thériault, from local lodge 712.

The Canadian Office encourages local lodges to nominate activists from across the country for next year’s Summit. The labour movement is vibrant when connected with all the progressive voices from Canada and from all around the world.
