Giroux appointed Special Representative

Toronto, ON – IAM International President Bob Martinez announced today that District 11 Business Representative/Organizer Neil Giroux is to be appointed to the position of Special Representative to Grand Lodge, commencing July 1, 2018. Giroux will replace Brother Gerald Tremblay who announced his retirement earlier this year.

“Neil Giroux is a solid trade unionist, who has held many roles during his Union career, most recently as a Business Rep in our Aerospace District based in Montreal,” said Martinez. “He comes highly recommended by both his colleagues in District 11 and by Canadian IAM General Vice President Stan Pickthall.”

Giroux, who is fluently bilingual, worked for over 20 years as a journeyman Aircraft Electrician and Electrical Toolmaker for Bombardier Aerospace before becoming an IAM Business Representative at IAM District Lodge 11. Within local 712, he held many roles: as a shop steward, grievance officer, and as an Executive Board member.

“Neil is a strong fighting advocate for his membership and for the IAM,” explains IAM Canadian General Vice President Pickthall. “He is very interested in the Aerospace sector and will be an invaluable member of our strong team in Montreal. I ask everyone to continue to work together with Neil in his new role as Special Representative.”

Giroux replaces Aerospace Coordinator Gerald Tremblay, who is retiring after 18 years of service to the IAM, first as an Organizer, then as a GLR, and later as Aerospace Coordinator for Canada. “Gerald has played a significant role in our union, and the work he has done for IAM members is greatly appreciated,” said Pickthall. “On behalf of our membership across both countries, we wish him well in his retirement.”
