Continental Service Agents Join Machinists!

For Immediate Release
Toronto, ON – Forty-One Service agents at Continental Airlines at Pearson International Airport are the newest members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. The IAMAW also represents United Airlines service agents in Vancouver.
“This is the first group of Continental employees in Canada to join the Machinists and job security was foremost on the minds,” said IAMAW District Lodge 78 Organizer Scott Jackson. Continental and United Airlines are in the midst of a merger and keeping their jobs is their biggest concern. “Another factor was the knowledge that unionized airline service agents earn considerably more than their non-union counterparts,” explained Jackson.
The IAMAW is the largest union in the air transport sector in Canada and North America and has represented Canadian air transport workers for almost seventy years. The IAMAW is the largest union at Continental and United Airlines in the United States.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
